2010 Tour Schedule
Each month, Vintage Highway will tour a specific AVA (American Viticultural Area). We’ll establish a base camp at a winery and then spend three to four days exploring the region. We’ll attempt to schedule each trip during a special event in the AVA. Here’s the plan we’ve got nailed down thus far, though my itinerary is subject to change if I get a better offer!
January 28 to 31:
Amador County
Cooper Vineyards, 21365 Shenandoah School Road, Plymouth, CA
Event: “Barrel Tasting Weekend” in adjacent Eldorado County (www.eldoradowines.org)
February 16 to 21:
Napa Valley, Rutherford. I am attending the Symposium for Wine Writers sponsored by the Napa Valley Vinters at Meadowood, a four-program ending Friday. Saturday, I’m trying to get into the Premiere Napa Valley Auction; that evening I’ll be at Terraces Winery to attend a pig roast. Though I don’t have plans to visit any wineries, there will be plenty to write about.
March 19 to 23:
Andersen Valley: I am attending the “Pino Noir Blending Seminar” at Handley Cellars and spending a couple of days touring the AVA.
April 27
Mendocino Winegrape and Wine Commission’s Trade/Press Tasting at the Golden Gate Club at the Presidio in San Francisco.
Check back often as the schedule firms up later in the year.

This blog will follow my monthly trips into wine country across California, Oregon, Washington and, some day, around the country. As the owner of Carpe Vino, a wine shop, wine bar and fine dining restaurant in Auburn, CA, I have direct access to the leading wineries and winemakers in the business. I’ll be traveling the back roads of wine country to find the true gems, small production wines made by truly passionate people. In my nightly blogs on the road, I’ll tell their stories and describe what I’ve seen, learned and tasted.
